About Al Bateen Area
Al Bateen is a residential area located in Abu Dhabi, in the coastal area between Nareel Island and Al Karamah Island. The area has access to Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum Road, which is one of the key highways of the emirate.Located on a 2,600 ft. long beautiful sandy beach, the Al Bateen area has been previously restored and was awarded the International Blue Flag Award, which confirms the safety and crystal clearness of the coastal waters. In addition, one of the main fishing ports of the island is located here, as well as a great landscaped infrastructure and many green areas and gardens.The Al Bateen residential neighbourhoods are divided into six sub-communities which include Al Marasy, Bloom Marina, Al Bateen Airport, Al Bateen Complex, Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street and Al Bateen Wharf. There is also a 5-star hotel and Al Bateen Palace, one of the residences of the ruler of Abu Dhabi.
Infrastructure
Al Bateen is adjacent to Nareel Island and Al Karamah. Another one of Abu Dhabi's major communities is Al Mushrif (and its famous Al Mushrif Palace), which is located at the southeastern border of the community. Traditionally, it is used by the royal family as a venue for ceremonies and events.
Al Bateen is well suited for vehicle owners as each sub-community has parking spaces as well as having many public parking lots near its retail stores and restaurants. The following locations can be reached within a 25 minute drive:
- Umm Al Emarat Park - 10 minutes
- Khalidiyah Mall - 10 minutes
- Downtown Abu Dhabi 15 minutes
- Louvre Abu Dhabi - 20 minutes
- Abu Dhabi International Airport - 25 minutes
As for public transportation routes, there are currently no provisions for Al Bateen. The nearest bus stop, Al Karamah, is about 10 minutes’ away. But despite this, the neighbourhood. has a well-developed infrastructure that includes restaurants, parks with walking trails, sports and spa centers, kindergartens, schools and a medical center.
The closest stores are Al Bateen Grocery, located next to the park in the central area, Bateen Stars Supermarket, Zoom and Iris Market on Hazza Bin Zayed Street. Another option not far from the Bloom Marina community is Yum-Yum Urban Market.
Nearest educational institutions:
- Nurseries: Orchard Nursery, Stepping Stone Nursery, Kipina Nursery, Baby Bird, Teddy Bear American Nursery.
- Schools: Al Ghazali School, American Community School of Abu Dhabi, Etihad School, Al Bateen Primary Model School, Rawdat Al Hadaya School.
- Universities: The Emirates College of Technology, The European International College in Al Rawdah, Al Hosn University in Al Musalla.
Major sports complexes such as the Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Stadium and the Abu Dhabi Sports Education Centre are located within a 10-minute drive.
Two medical facilities are located on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street - Al Qadi Medical Centre and Gulf Diagnostic Center.
Al Bateen offers several cultural attractions, including Al Bateen Palace, one of the residences of the Sheikh of Abu Dhabi, and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Al Bateen Mall - a small shopping complex built within a building of a former bus depot. There is a supermarket, confectionery stores, and popular branded stores.
Nation Towers Mall - a three-storey modern mall. Here you can find branded stores, perfume shops, clothing and jewelry boutiques, organic food stores, cafes, restaurants, lounge areas, a cinema and a children's learning center called Little World's Discovery Centre.
Key cultural attractions in the area include the following places of interest:
The Etihad Antique Gallery (EMAG), which opened in 2013, and has an extensive collection of Arab, Islamic, European and Middle Eastern antiques, artifacts and works of art. The gallery is owned by H.E. Khaled Siddiq Al Mutawa'a and was originally open for private viewing only. Since 2016, however, all exhibitions have been available to the wider public. The gallery is open from 10 a.m to 10 p.m, everyday except for Friday’s, which are closed.
Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Park - one of the largest parks in Abu Dhabi (formerly known as Khalidiya Ladies Park), has an area of 495,000 sq. ft, of which 259,000 sq. ft are filled with landscaped gardens and greenery. In 2017-2018, the area was renovated with a total cost of AED 94 million. The park includes an artificial forest, an amphitheater, bike paths, fitness areas and sports grounds.
Al Bateen Wharf - the oldest waterfront in the UAE, which has 324 berths for fishing boats, has recently been renovated and now has three marinas, a community center, restaurants, cafes, stores, walkways and the five-star Abu Dhabi Edition Hotel. It also offers a limited series of residential apartments.
Al Bateen is also home to important government offices - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Supreme Court, and the Federal National Council.

Al Bateen is considered one of the most sought-after residential areas in Abu Dhabi. It is home to several premium residential sub-communities. The Al Bateen area is fully self-sufficient and has all the necessary infrastructure for a comfortable life, including stores, restaurants, shopping and sports centers, beach access and close proximity to the emirate's key highways.
