About the Area
Located far from central Abu Dhabi, Al Shamkha is a large residential neighbourhood. The major highway in UAE, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road (E311) borders on the north-eastern side, it actually starts from Al Shamkha Community. Along the northern length of the community, Sweihan Road leads towards the outskirts of Abu Dhabi.
Strategically located away from the city and closer to the industrial area of Mussafah, the residential community will house around 22,000 people when it is completed.
Taking over an area of 419,000 sq. ft, Al Shamkha is located 40 km away from Downtown Abu Dhabi. The area was redeveloped in 2016, and the project has been coordinated between the UPC, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA), and the Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada).
Transport Connectivity

Along the northern length of the community is Sweihan Road, which travels around the outskirts of the Emirati capital. Downtown Abu Dhabi is located within a 30-minute drive, while Dubai can be reached in less than an hour.
In terms of public transport, the closest bus stops are Al Khayr St / Stop 30854, Al Khayr St / Al Mawrid St and Shk, and Rashid Bin Saeed St / Mohammed Bin Khalifa St are located a 5–15 minute walk away.
However, it might be more convenient to travel via private vehicle, as owners of villas in Al Shamkha will be provided with parking for at least one car, and residents of multi-apartment buildings in the area will have access to one parking space per apartment.
Social Infrastructure
Al Shamkha has all the necessary amenities for a comfortable life situated in the area. There are a great number of supermarkets nearby, such as Noor Al Izdihar Supermarket, SPAR hypermarket and Zenith Supermarket, as well as small retail stores. Nabras al Shaebi Restaurant and Tea Time Cafeteria can be reached within several minutes, while Gazebo Restaurant and Maroosh Restaurant are a 30-minute drive away.
Among the closest educational institutions one can consider are Al Yasat Private School, offering the American curriculum from kindergarten to Grade 10, Al Reeyada International School which follows the British curriculum, Al Qimma School, and ABC Private School. Mohammed Bin Zayed University and Abu Dhabi University are a 20-minute drive from Al Shamkha.
Those who are into sports will appreciate the modern Baniyas Sports and Culture Club, as well as Fitness First and Arabian Village Gym. If you have a medical emergency, the residents can find numerous clinics in Al Shamkha, for example Burjeel Medical Center – Al Shahama, Sama Al Shamkha Medical Center and Shamkha Medical Center are all located within the neighbourhood. The closest hospitals, Mafraq Hospital and Al Salama One Day Surgery Centre in Baniyas, can be found just a 15-minute drive away.
Several beautiful mosques are located in the area. The most popular one is Habeeb Bin Zaid Mosque, which is located within walking distance from the center of Al Shamkha. Other mosques such as Abu Sa'eed Mosque, SH-16 Central Mosque and Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mosque are within close proximity from any part of the area.
There are also several churches, including St. Paul's Church, The Mar Thoma Church and The Armenian Church of Abu Dhabi which are all approximately 20 minutes away.
