SAVI cluster is a strategic initiative in Abu Dhabi to help develop high-tech vehicles and the industrial sector of the country
Abu Dhabi will house a cluster of Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (SAVI) that aims to redefine the development of high-tech air, maritime and land transport. The project has been approved by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, who claimed that the initiative will strengthen the emirate's leadership position in the cutting-edge technology of the industrial sector.
SAVI will be established in Masdar City and will focus on the development, testing and manufacturing of smart driverless vehicles. The project will boost the development of "smart" cities and bring in innovative technologies to the industrial sector and other associated industries. The development of the cluster will have a positive impact on the country's economy in general, as it will contribute between AED 90B and AED 120B (USD 25B – USD 33B) and create 50K job opportunities.
Local regulatory entities, including the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), and Abu Dhabi Maritime, are all supporting the development of the booming cluster.
In order to engage talented specialists and world-renowned companies in the project, and to facilitate the introduction of innovations that are to be produced at SAVI, there will be an integrated regulatory service. The regulatory body will set standards and simplify the process of licensing, authorisation and registration of intellectual property in order to ensure rapid commercialisation of the cluster's products.
Joby Aviation, WeRide, and Marakeb have already declared their intention to join SAVI. These partnerships will add even greater scale to the cluster and will allow the innovative solutions to be promoted globally. Companies located within the cluster will have access to R&D laboratories, workshops and production facilities, testing and certification centres, as well as global logistics.
